( honey no sweetie i agree with starryharbor here, that's stereotypical and not funny >/ and like in the anime and manga like those men got jealous and did the same so like kinda dismantles the joke anyway ????? )
um i'm sorry but i'm gonna comment on this this is not funny, this is just immature and sexist. this is the kind of joke a 12 year old boy would make. people already hound on us because we have yaoi-obsessed fans who want the nyos to die because they're "in the way", and these kinds of jokes make us look worse. you can say it's not meant to be sexist but that doesn't change the fact that you're insinuating that all girls can be is jealous of one another.
((Um, I'm sorry but it's called "a joke" for humor, you know, laughs. Not to cause drama. I'm sorry you feel this way about this post, but you could've just deleted this from your inbox and moved on with your life. The whole world will not cater to you just because you complain about it.))
((I laughed my ass off at your reply. I can't take someone who's trying to argue with me seriously when they're typing like middle school diarrhea. Give me a reason to take you seriously, put up a valid argument as to why I can't find a joke funny because that's who I am, and instead to see this 'immature middle school diarrhea' as you say it is.))
You can, in fact, find this joke funny, but you're making yourself look like an immature child by doing so, and are going to be judged hardcore for it. I am the least bit feminist. I'm a 19 year old boy in college and social justice makes my life ten times more complicated than it needs to be. But even I, an anti-sjw, know not to a) say things like this, or b) find things like this funny.
You, as a woman, should know better than me. Your gender has been through countless decades of oppression. You have been denied the right to an education, denied the right to vote, and looked down upon by others. In some countries you are viewed as weak, stupid, incapable of taking care of yourself, and absolutely worthless aside from your ability to bear children. In America, you are subject to gender inequality through salary, targets for murder and rape, and have to deal with these shitty sexist mindsets to boot. Why in God's name are you going to laugh at a joke that puts you down because of your gender when women from ages ago fought tooth and nail for gender equality. They wanted people to stop thinking it was okay to suggest that all girls are machines that pop out babies and feel nothing but lust, greed, and jealousy, but here you are SUPPORTING the shit they were trying to defeat.
Women should empower one another rather than being supposedly "envious" of one another. You all should stand the fuck up, support each other, put your feet down and stop this bullshittery that mocks you rather than stand by and let more men know that "HEY! I CAN TELL THIS GIRL TO GO MAKE ME A SANDWICH LOLOLOL WHAT A BITCH" is acceptable. You and the girl who made this poster are being counterproductive, traitors against the women who refuse to sit down for your sakes, and commenters in particular are making an absolute fools of themselves for siding with a poorly-made demotivational poster advertising sexism. The only people I see in favor of this upload are WEEABOOS THAT TALK LIEK DIS!!! X3 Which, if you ask me, is kind of disappointing, seeing as you come off as a good roleplayer with a well-rounded OC.
Soak that up for a second before you get back to me. Tell me how I'm wrong.
((While I do appreciate the comments and your argument, I still stand by the side that a joke is a joke, and should not be taken so seriously.
Yes, I am completely aware of all of the struggling females have done to get us to where we are now. I am aware how oppressed my gender is, how our salaries are so much lower than the average male's, how we're constantly targeted, how people thought of us back then, and how they think about us now.
But I think I can tell the difference between someone who's poking fun at us, versus people who actually think like that about us.
I am in no way supporting the fact that women should be oppressed, nor am I supporting the fact that all women are are simply jealous of one another and how we constantly bicker over trivial things; I am no social justicer(social justice preacher?) either, mind you, but I set the minds of people who think they can treat me like crap straight. In all honesty, the ignorance pisses me off as much as probably you do, or probably the other girl that I replied to, but I can brush off a joke because it's just that. No malice is intended, and it's not like the poster/artist is supporting this either.
I even used the example of Hetalia before with the other girl; Hetalia is an anime all about poking fun at other countries, making racist jokes with some history in the midst of everything. Yet you're okay with Hetalia, aren't you? Heck, your account proves it all. What about those undermined races being even more undermined by this show, does that mean it promotes racism? No, it doesn't. It's just a harmless, funny show.
Now, before I end this off, I'd also like to state that maturity isn't based off of what jokes one finds funny or not. It's based off of one's growth; the ability to handle certain subjects and to know the difference between what is truly right and truly wrong. I know that the actual oppression of females is wrong, but a simple joke is not going to change the entire world. Instead of focusing on people who joke about this subject, we should all try to focus on the people who actually believe this way about women.
But, that's just what I believe about the subject.))
"Heck, your account proves it all. What about those undermined races being even more undermined by this show," Okay, first of all, you don't know anything about my OC, and you obviously haven't read anything about him, so I don't know where you get off saying that I'm "undermining races". If you're about to argue with me over my OC and the demographics of the state of Washington, you are starting a debate you seriously don't want to be on the opposing side of. Do not go there. Do not even touch the subject.
Secondly, I can tell you right now that the driving force behind Hetalia is not to "poke fun at other countries"; you're confusing that for the way the characters are stereotyped. And I don't support that, either, seeing as I've done more than five damn years of research on my own OC and hate that my home countries' personifications are portrayed the way they were. I personally find it disrespectful and usually don't associate with roleplayers or fans that refuse to recognize that some of these canon characters can come off as extremely offensive. And if the show is so harmless, why is it that in one of the first few episodes Romano says he's got something to show Ludwig, and in response he asks, "What is it, another Jew?" That was not harmless. That was, in fact, very insensitive and crude.
You also aren't putting two and two together. "Women are just a bunch of jealous people" has the same effects as "Women are only good for their bodies". It preaches to already sexist people that it's okay to look down on girls, even if that isn't what you're intending to do. Words, no matter your own meaning behind them, will always translate into something different with each person that stumbles across them. Chances are if some fedora-wearing, self-proclaimed niceguy reads that poster, they're going to think "damn straight women are jealous little bastards". Jokes do nothing but enable. They do more harm than they do good.
Maturity is all that and being able to think outside the box. Someone with ignorant point of view is going to look at this and think that yes, it's just a joke, it doesn't mean to do harm. But someone who thinks it though, someone who thinks of the consequences and compares them to a few shits and giggles, is going to realize that making a mildly sexist joke is going to encourage sexist behavior. In simpler terms, maturity means being wise enough to know that a few little meaningless words can actually deal a whole lot of damage in the bigger picture.))
((Alright alright, first off, I wasn't trying to undermine your OC in any way whatsoever, I believe I worded that statement wrong, and that I am sorry for. I am rather sick and I've been running fevers for a few days, so my wording may not be the best. What I meant to say was your liking for the show is clear with your profile, seeing as it is a character for said show. Nothing about your OC at all.
And again, my wording was off when I wrote that too. I am very aware that that was not the driving force of the entire show, but that it's very much prominent. But still, even if this is the case that you find much of the content in the show offensive, how can you stand being wrapped around in that fandom, let alone watching the show itself? In that case, why create a character for something you seem to have very mixed feelings about? It can't be because you think it's funny, because for the most part, it's all offensive comedy.
No, no. I'm not saying that those two statements have nothing to do with one another, I don't think you're getting it. It's the context of those sentences, it's either sarcasm or true malice. And what if, like the person who uploaded this very poster, did the same thing she did in her description and stated that it's SUPPOSED to be a joke and nothing more. Than the "fedora-wearing, self-proclaimed niceguys" wouldn't have a reason; unless they only read what they want to read and nothing more? In that case, they're a lost cause, aren't they? Because they won't listen to anything else other than everything they want to hear/read.
I suppose it all depends on the point of view of the people arguing, because I realize we haven't gotten anywhere with this. Obviously, you have a different thought process than I do, and you see ignorance completely different than I. Let's be real, this will just keep going around and around in circles, we'll keep on arguing and arguing until one of us eventually gets tired and stops replying to the other. So I believe, after this, it'd be a good idea to just drop it, part our separate ways, and hopefully never meet again. I don't care if you want the last words or whatever, all I know is that we're both pretty set in our ideals and neither of us seems to be wavering at all. And that's fine, you can go ahead and hate sexist jokes all you want. I will not stop you, I just thought I'd put my two cents in.
Now, if these are to be my last words, happy roleplaying and have a nice life.))
nobody mature is going to laugh at this? as i stated this is something a 12 year old kid would say and it really does make the hetalia fandom look like a bunch of immature people who don't know the difference between respectful humor and offensive humor
((I'm quite mature (and a female myself, I should add) and I had a good chuckle out of this. Maturity isn't based off of what jokes you laugh at or not, it's based off of your knowledge of what's right and wrong. Look at the anime, Hetalia, itself; it's making fun of practically every country in said show, and you don't seem to have a problem with it. Hetalia is full of nothing but offensive humor, but you seem to not give a damn anyway.
I know racism is wrong, just like I know sexism is wrong, but racist and sexist jokes are okay around the right audience. Seems like you just can't take sexist jokes that well. And that's fine, just don't rain on everyone else's parade just because you feel offended.))
